Pain Education Programmes
Minimize

Pain Education Programmes are for people who require more than a one to one consultation, but either do not need or, for a variety of reasons, are unable to attend the group Pain Management Programme. Generally our Pain Education Programmes are delivered in your home or place of work. Below is an example of someone who has benefitted greatly from our Pain Education Programme.

Sahid was involved in an accident while working as a traffic warden.  He had considerable pain, was unable to lead his prayer group and struggled with family responsibilities.  He found sessions on understanding thoughts and feelings particularly fascinating and those on relaxation helpful in reducing muscle spasms and irritableness.  Sahid has a significant reduction in pain, is able to walk to the shops, sit for a meal, watch TV with his family and stand for long enough to manage spiritual activities.  His relationship with his family has improved dramatically.  He completed an access to work computer course and is in discussion with his employer about returning to work.

Pain Education Programmes vary in the number of sessions needed dependaning on your requirements. You will be assessed in the same way as you would be for our Pain Management Programme. An appropriate practitioner will be identified to deliver the programme to you at your home with support being given by telephone and email, we will also visit you in your workplace if this is required by you or your employer.

Treatment is based upon Cognitive Behaviour Therapy principles, the materials and resources of the group Pain Management Programme and is goal orientated. Resources such as The Back Book, Manage Your Pain text, living with Chronic Pain CD and Living & Working with Pain “Relaxation” may be used.

The PEP is a great way of accessing the right materials to keep your pain in check and ensure that it is not ruling your life. Please call one of us to discuss your situation further so we can help you to discover the options open to you and the potential outcomes you can expect.
