One to one consultations

Emily is a piano teacher, with osteoarthritis.  Pain in her foot and shoulder was interfering with her work and disturbing her sleep. We lent her a TENS device, which worked well and she subsequently purchased one.  We also discussed medication changes with her GP, which she tried with effect.  GP visits have reduced significantly and Emily is now enjoying her work and leisure.

Pain Education Programmes

Ann is a hospice at home nurse. who experienced episodic back pain for many years. The most recent led to her being off sick. Following assesment, an intensive programme was agreed involving TSE (Transcutaneous Spinal Electoanalgesia), stretch exercises, heat, sleep management, pacing, goal setting and managing thoughts and feelings.  Ann returned to work after 5 1/2 weeks and despite further episodes of back pain, uses self management strategies to work full time and enjoy a busy family life.

Pain Management Programmes

Carli was left with widespread pain after a serious road traffic accident.  She tried to return to work as a Marketing Director on two occasions, but was unable to cope with her pain and experienced severe depression.  She joined our programme at Missenden Abbey and by the end of the group sessions had enrolled on an art and design course.  One of our practitioners visited the college with Carli to speak to the tutor about strategies to enable her to manage her course successfully.  We continued to see her through our ongoing support scheme until she completed the course.
